Suspiria (2018)

Luca Guadagnino’s SUSPIRIA is neither remake nor reboot.  Rather, it’s a re-interpretation of the source—Thomas de Quincey’s Suspiria de Profundis.  In Dario Argento’s 1977 horror classic, often mischaracterized as Giallo, Nicolodi’s script rooted itself in the xenophobic superstitions of her grandmother.

Halloween

So much has changed about the landscape of horror films in general, and slasher flicks in particular, during the past four decades. At this point, making a sequel to the original Halloween either feels like a nostalgic gimmick or a transparent attempt to relaunch a well-worn franchise.
